It'll improve one of the other positions, but production from the catcher production will decline.

Making one of those moves, plus getting the same production from the catcher spot improves the offense.

Replacing what G's got from C with similar production at another position means the offense will stay about the same.

If Molina accepted arbitration, it wouldn't have been the end of the world. If Posey was going to be starting, the move made some sense because Molina would be blocking him. But it sounds like Posey will start the season in the minors.
