last thing you want to do is be on the hook with Molina for 2 years just because you "need to". Last year was a perfect example of that type of move in overpaying for Renteria. I'd welcome a very reasonable contract for Torrealba for 1 or even 2 years. Initially as a starter, than a back-up.

I'd also like to get Penny back, but not overpaying. He and his agent may still come back to us if they don't like what they see on the open market.

All signs point to a lot of guys not getting offered arbitration, and much like last year (even more so) there will be talent available for cheap if teams are patient. I'd rather risk losing a guy like Bengie and have financial flexibility to make a move at the deadline, or sign a guy late in the offseason than be stuck with more Renteria/Zito/Rowand type contracts.
