The Giants really need to take the low-cost/low-risk route as far as this off-season goes. If they were to get saddled w/ just one more bad contract to triple up w/ the Rowand and Zito deals, our salary flexibility for the future would be absolutley crippled. And if you notice, I'm not even including the horrendous Renteria contract, mostly in part because that fiasco will be through at the end of this upcoming season. While the Beltres and Nick Johnsons of the world sound sexy in name- we really couldn't afford for one of the signings to bust- even mildly bust, at that; and both of those guys give ample reason to suggest a 50/50 kind of risk assesment. Even Matt Holliday sounds like a risky ordeal when you consider his lack of success at the less expansive park measurements over in the Oakland Coliseum. The Giants really need to think this offseason through, because just one more bust of a contract would absolutely murder their movement in the future. This could be one of the more "make or break" off-seasons in consideration to our future that I can remember as a Giants fan in a long-time, or at least since the pre-Barry Bonds era.
