He's one of the most injury prone guys in all of MLB. He's averaged 87 games played since he was traded to Montreal/Washington and was therefore given full-time starter status in 2004, including missing the entire 2007 season. 87 games a yr out of 162 total? That's awful! I got no idea what database would show how injury prone projected starters DL-times compare vs one another, but my guess is that's gotta rank in the top 10, if not higher. Plus, incredibly injury prone guys who hit their 30's don't get healthier with age- it usually only gets worse. I'm not saying I don't like what he brings to the table- cuz I really do- but there's no point in paying a guy more than 8 Mil a yr if you know you gotta platoon close to 50% of his At-Bats; especially if you don't have a good, young, cheap RH-hitting platoon option already in the fold. Somebody will ante-up for this guy, and they'll probably be rewarded for 50% of the season or so. It's just that other, pesky, 50% of the season I'd be worried about paying his salary. Seriously, if we pay him 8 mil for 87 games, it's more like we're paying him 16 mil based on an entire 162 game season. Granted, that's manipulative math, but when a guy has been this consistently injured- it not so far-fetched.
