I guess I'm drinking the kool-aid, but here's the moves, and here's my thinking:
Moves: sign Jermaine Dye, Kiki Calero, and one more infield guy (like LaRoche or Torrealba) to a short, reasonable contract.
There's just not a lot of talent out there if you're not going to step up for the top 2 guys (I do think Bay would have been worth it for the price he signed with the Mets, but likely wouldn't have come here for those $), and I wouldn't pay Holliday $100mm plus to play here.
Here's the thinking: on the pitching front, we've got a solid 4 starters, and Bumgardner as #5. Hopefully Sanchez continues on his breakout path and Bumgardner can give us the same that we got last year from Johnson. But I really like the idea of signing Calero. He had a solid year last year in Florida, and the back end of our bullpen could essentially end a game after 6 innings with him, Affeldt, and Wilson. That's huge, and he'd be a definite upgrade over BoHo.
Then, on offense; we have so many guys that can play multiple positions in the infield and even outfield, that as this offseason plays out, there should be somebody who ends up the odd man out during the offseason and willing to sign for cheap. He doesn't need to be a 1b or 3b, we can really sign an infielder or outfielder and move the other pieces around.
So, here's thinking on offense:
Yes, we lost Benji...he was a good Giant and did a good job at cleanup...BUT, he was slow as hell and moved base to base. That's really bad for this team. On the plus side, DeRosa will be an upgrade, a full year of Sanchez will be an upgrade, and Dye would definitely be an upgrade on offense. Then, you have to think there's no way that Renteria and Rowand can have year's as bad as last year. And if Renteria does have that kind of year, you've got Uribe ready to plug in.
Anyway, I do think that with these few moves this team could definitely win 93-95 games. I guess I'm delusional!

with just a couple more moves, I'm actually relatively upbeat about our possibilities for next year.
