Huff is a cut-rate middle of the order hitter.

but then again, you can't really get middle of the order hitters for 3 mil a year.

Huff's history is pretty interesting. Started fast... from 25-27 averaged a 300/360/510...

Then three mediocre seasons, a big 2008 (silver slugger award), and then a sub-mediocre 09.

No idea what to expect from this guy, but a 100+ OPS+ seems about as much as can be hoped for.

I personally am confused as to why they had such a hard on for a left handed bat. I am getting a little annoyed at their ability to totally waste young position players, whether they are good or not.

Meaning, given either the age, potential or AAA numbers (or even MLB numbers) of Schierholtz, Lewis, Bowker, Ishikawa; they have some value.

So maybe you determine they have little value to your team (Lewis, their determination, not mine), but don't totally crush their value by openly searching for their replacement and even settling on a guy who didn't even best them in OPS+ last year.

We know Lewis is on the outs, we now know Ishikawa has gotten his chance... Bowker, the freaking reigning AAA player of the year, is losing value by the day and who knows what is up with Schierholtz, who is really, at this point, the only guy on the roster that i would be happy to see in RF defensively.

Talent evaluation is both finding guys and recognizing/cultivating the abilities of the guys you have. The Giants have just signaled to the rest of the league that they pretty much think nothing of 3 of their 4 young, left handed hitters.
