Looking at the offseason and comparing this team to the one that started last season, there is no comparison. For that reason it is hard to criticize the offseason moves. I don't feel bad about missing out on Holliday or Bay, and at least the Giants didn't sign any 30+ guys to long term deals (sadly, Giants management not screwing up is considered a positive).

Which is why I am concerned. In some ways it would have been better if the team did not succeed last year. The rebuilding process would have been more fluid. But, damn, the pitching and Pablo were just too good.

All the young position players are still a year away (actually, maybe they can pull a Pablo and prove they are ready earlier), so the Giants put together this interim team to presumably compete for a year without committing long term to any vets.

Personally, I applaud this strategy. But what I wonder is if it was a conscious decision based on the evaluations of young players or if it was more Sabean and his veteran security blanket strategy.

I don't know which it is, I guess we will find out, but more and more I see a clear division between Sabean and his staff (the guys really responsible for Lincecum, Cain, Pablo, etc.).
