actually, it is kind of a sign of a good prospect that they are not necessarily on a level-by-level progression.
Don't look at the giants history for this, Giants do things ass backward.
check out some other teams and there is more evidence of players skipping levels, being called up mid season and sticking, or making the big league team (with starting jobs, even) out of spring training.
then again, maybe I am just deluding myself into thinking the Giants have these types of prospects. And I am doing this because it is the only way I can see Sabean not continuously signing mediocre veterans (and bochy playing them). A number of position players will have to pull a Pablo and out perform expectations (only Posey is really expected to be a star).
Then again, do they need Crawford, Neal, etc. to be stars or just solid starters. Which then begs the question, does Pablo just play because he is a star now? Pablo, thankfully, skipped right over average major leaguer. If he had hung around at average would the Uribes and DeRosa's of the world steal ABs from him on a Bochy managed team?
I just shuddered. That is too horrible to contemplate. But that seems the gist of the concern with Sabean and Bochy. If you are a young player you have to greatly outperform a vet to get playing time. You can't just equal the vet. Because the vet is bringing some unknown intangible that only Bochy can see.
That is why I keep praying that Neal, Crawford, etc. will be these rare talents that skip levels and force Bochy to play them. Otherwise it will just be more of the same... just ask Schierholtz, Fansden and Bowker.

not that I don't agree that most prospects are a year away, but level doesn't really matter
