strides in teaching mechanics. etc. to reduce the wear and tear of traditional off-speed pitches/breaking balls. It's the HARD breaking stuff that's nearly impossible to soften the blow on the arms of these guys nowadays. A 95 mph slider or 92 mph splitter are gonna get you no matter what- ask a big ol' horse like Eric Gagne, Kerry Wood, Brad Penny, etc. That's why a guy like Josh Johnson probably has a closer expiration date on him than an older Barry Zito.
