Partially because they plan to win next year and especially the year after (new stadium). He only makes about 9 mil next year so they won't blink twice at that.
But, If they aren't in the hunt AND Hanley is having an off year again and loudly not being happy there... well maybe they lower the ransom. After all, he is due $15 million in 2012, $15.5 million in 2013 and $16 million in 2014. That is the kind of player we can afford to trade for. And it is really simple... If someone like Cain/Sanchez don't want to do another extension at a reasonable price then try to make them part of the trade.
Then again I love our starting pitching and I really don't mind a weak bat at SS provided we are getting top tier defense and speed on the basepaths. And Posey and MadBum are so very important to this team, especially with the economic side factoring in.

Yeah, I think that is far too high a price to pay, but don't disagree that is their asking price ATM
