One, Timmy's agent said this signing doesn't preclude negotiations for a contract to keep Timmy as a Giant for his career. So he's looking for that 10-year kind of deal that scares the hell out of me. The good side of that is that if he's willing to sign something like that he's not desperate to get out of town.
The other thought is that I don't think Timmy would go somewhere he wouldn't be allowed to be Timmy just for more money. I suspect he knows he's already more filthy rich than any player in history at his level and would look for a place that would accept him rather than make him conform to their idea of appropriate behavior. I can't, for example, ever see him going to the Yankees. If SF has a contending team I think the Giants have a big leg up, because he's comfortable there. Seattle would have to make some major improvements to be considered a contending team, and going home might even be too much of a fishbowl.
No guarantees he sticks around, and if the Giants shy off of a really long-term deal I can't say they'd be wrong, but all the hand-wringing about him taking off at the instant he becomes a free agent just for big bucks is overblown in my opinion.
Of course I could be dead wrong.

Lincecum gets exactly what he wanted, but he also assumes the greater risk

- considering timmay has lost his fastball for 3 straight years signing him to a two year deal is fine - fatal 2012-01-25 17:28:58 (19 views)

Not to mention pitching in the NL and in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in the league

- Great point. I think that's one reason Matt Cain wants a long term deal. - starburst 2012-01-25 19:48:40 (16 views)

Sabean signed Zito and Rowand to stupid monster deals, and offered $100 M to Timmy, so I can't criticize Detroit signing Fielder.

- Juan, Sabean didn't sign or want Zito. That was Magowan. This has been confirmed by different reporters many times. In my post I copied a tweet from Henry Schulman 5 days ago - Calvin and Hobbs 2012-01-25 18:17:06 (19 views)

I doubt it. The Sabean supporters will be whining about the weak hitting in June.

The other issue could be choosing Mike Fontenot over Jeff Keppinger.

Sabean doesn't set the budget, ownership does. Keppinger earned $2.3MM last year and would have obtained a raise through arbitration in the neighborhood of $3-4 Million for 2012

It's not just me. A lot of fans think Sabean hasn't done enough to get the G-men back into the playoffs.

"It's not just me. A lot of fans think Sabean hasn't done enough." Ok, Juan what move(s) did you want Sabean to make?

Sign Josh Willingham instead of giving money to Affeldt.
- juan 2012-01-25 22:18:42 (19 views)

If Sabean had signed Willingham instead of picking up Affeldt's club option, where are you going to get the extra $2.5 Million from?
- Calvin and Hobbs 2012-01-25 22:52:03 (20 views)

What? You never heard of a trade. If you're a buyer, then you make your best deals now. Hope you don't have to deal next year unless you're a seller.

I don't know that he would want to be in either of those places. A hair cut would be mandatory in NY. Boston? East Coast fans are jerks. Tim is a West Coast guy.
