Sabean set off a mini firestorm today by claiming the Giants have/had contact with a free agent shortstop, assuming he is not talking about Uribe and with everyone’s favorite misspelled Jhonny already on the hook for 11 mil with Detroit, let the Jeter hypothesizing love fest begin.Yes, he is 36.

Yes, his best days are behind him.

Yes, it is a  terrible idea to give an almost assuredly HGH free 36 year old 60 million dollars.

But the fact remains. HE IS FREAKING DEREK JETER!!

But here are some actually ideas/facts to back up this lunacy.

A: Lets just say the Giants actually have no shot at getting Jeter. This really is the most likely scenario. That doesn’t mean they can’t finally turn the tables on a team. Teams have been using the Giants as leverage for years when it comes to price gouging. Agents have done it to raise their players value and other teams have done it to stick them with high priced guys who were only worth half of their contracts. see: Rowand, Arron. Don’t think teams who had an eye on Tori Hunter didn’t screw with Rowand’s numbers. So go as high as 60 mil for Jeter, and if the Yankess match it who cares. No one is ever going to fault a team for overpaying  Jeter. Again, HE IS DEREK FREAKING JETER!!

B:  The Giants never lead ESPN or MLB network and frankly I am sick of it. After winning the World Series they still will be buried during spring training prognostications and lumped in with the likes of the Marlins and Brewers when it comes to spring training team break downs. You think this happens if Jeter is here? We will have shot after shot of Jeter and Minka moving into One Rincon just a floor above his dad and mom. Jeter’s dad interestingly to only me looks like Cleveland from the Cleveland show…not the city…poor poor Cleveland.

C: What if the Yankees actually screwed this up? What if they somehow let a guy who has a shot at Pete Rose’s record slip? A guy who by all rights might be one of the few players during the steroid era we can all universally agree is clean, go to another team? Also, HE IS DEREK FREAKING JETER!!
